Build on your existing felting experience and learn to felt a sculptural pumpkin (ours will be about 7" x 6" in size), hollow but strong enough to hold its own shape. You will learn about differential felting — how using different fibre types, layers, batt/roving and fibre direction creates strength, structure, and form. Through this project you’ll discover how to control density and shape within the felt itself, giving you the foundation to make vessels, hats, and sculptural objects that hold their shape.
By understanding the theory behind differential felting, you’ll gain skills that will continue to help your own felting practice.
This workshop offers a full day of hands-on instruction with plenty of room for questions, exploration, and discovery. You will complete a felted pumpkin and leave with a deeper understanding of sculptural felting techniques — I strongly believe that workshops are not just about making an object, but are for learning skills.
Skills required: This is an advanced workshop for students that have a basic understanding of wet felting — ability to lay out fine layers of roving, difference between batt and roving, knowledge how to fully full a piece of felt, making a thick solid tube.
