Sari Silk Waste
This listing is for 50 grams (1.75 oz)
Sari Silk Waste, as the name itself suggests, is a byproduct of silk processing (especially of silk used for the traditional Indian Sari). It is a recycled material, which is repurposed instead of being discarded and disposed of as textile waste.
Sari Silk Waste from DHG is Oeko-Tex certified. This is made possible by the fact that they buy raw, undyed waste, and then dye it in Italy, using safe, certified dye, producing color-fast, lasting dyes matching the roving in their collection.
Sari Silk Waste is very versatile. It can be included in handfelting projects, in order to create shiny effects, and give more character to the texture of your pieces. Or they can be hand spun, and then used for hand knitting.
With a little extra creativity. A material which was bound to be discarded gets a second chance and becomes a key component in amazing pieces.
When you receive it, you will find that it is quite lumpy in areas -- a little bit of teasing allows you to spread it out (or keep it in clumps) all depending on the effects you are after.
Note: you might find some pieces of the textile process stuck in the silk -- such as loom heedles made from metal -- this is part of what this material is, but does not happen in each package
Silk waste from India, processed and dyed by DHG in Italy.
